Technology and Training
-For an athlete striving to compete at their highest level it is critical to understand their physiological efficiencies and inefficiencies before developing a training program.
-Many Olympic coaches already use lactate threshold levels to develop each athlete’s training paces and program
-Lactate testing is rapidly becoming the standard in sports such as running, rowing, swimming, cycling, speed skating, skiing, and canoe/kayak because it helps regulate training and avoid over-and/or under-training.
-Speed at lactate threshold has been found to be the most important predictor for endurance performance,it is less expensive than VO2 max testing and can be performed at the athlete’s training facility.
Lactate Threshold and Performance
-Lactate threshold is the maximum work capacity just before lactic acid, a byproduct of energy breakdown, production exceeds lactic acid removal.
-An individual athletes’ lactic acid response to exercise can be used to predict assess performance.
-Lactate testing information can also be used to plan training volume and intensity on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Testing and Evaluations
-Tests can be performed in any of the following sports: running, rowing, swimming, cycling, speed skating, cross-country skiing and canoe/kayaking.
-Each athlete will perform a test that is specific to one’s event.
-At the end of each test the athlete and/or coach will receive:
1.Determination of lactate threshold and speed and LT
2.Lactate Profile
3.Heart Rate Correlation
4.Breakdown of training zones with heart rate and paces
5.Consultation as to how to utilize lactate threshold and heart rates in everyday training. |
